I decided to throw in a mini post amongst all these UK posts…partially because I was falling behind in going through the thousands of photos I took, and partially because it motivated me to keep going a little.
I’d have to say that one of my favorite nights this trip was the one I spent with my old friends. There are two people in the UK I primarily keep in touch with, and this was the first time I was able to get together with both of them at the same time in 4 years.
So, to celebrate, I made everyone get a drink at one of the bars at the Shard (:
The evening walk was cool, but lovely.
Side note: these were all taken on iPhone…I didn’t feel the need to take out a big camera on a nice evening out with friends (:
I have to admit, I didn’t know the Walkie Talkie building was a new one until my friends said something. I assumed it had been a part of the skyline the whole time, and maybe I never noticed it. I was relieved to hear that it was built in my absence. Funny story: the shape of the building in the beginning was melting cars on the sidewalk. They had to reinforce the building with thicker glass so it wouldn’t melt London.
We met up on London Bridge and headed to the Oblix bar. It’s located on the 32nd floor, and it gives a stunning view of London.
We spent a few moments admiring the view, then divulged into our catching up and some delicious (and pricey) drinks.
Eventually the sun set, and we left for a nearby pub to continue on a night of laughter and reminiscing.
Even if you don’t drink, or don’t want to pay the prices for the drinks, there is an observation deck a little higher up, and it’s completely worth the view alone. Especially if you have good company.
