When people visit London, most will spend their time out in the central and western part of the city. It’s the tourist center, the area with the money, the place with the most attractions.
I, being the troublesome person I am, spend my time in East London. The East End is rough, dirty, notorious for it’s crime. Somehow, I like it much better there as there are hardly any tourists on the side of the city. Less cameras, less pointing, it seems like the real thing out here. Real life.
However, there are parts of West London that are pretty great, if only for a day.
I particularly enjoy the Kensington area. There are many museums and parks in the area, as well as Kensington High Street (Harrod’s, anybody?)
There’s the V&A museum
The Natural History Museum, the Science Museum
Which I just adore the architecture of. It’s so beautiful.
There are also the royal parks: Kensington…
This feisty swan kept snapping at everyone’s ankles
And if you have enough energy to keep walking, Leicester Square, Soho, Chinatown, Covert Garden, and Piccadilly Circus are all verrrrry close. As well as Buckingham Palace and Bond Street…London is very small in the whole scheme of things.
Those tourists, they flock like pigeons!
